description Believing in the resocializing and humanizing potential of reading, this article seeks to grasp the importance of reading and non-formal educational practices for individuals deprived of freedom, based on the experience of the Clube de Leitura APAC/Macau (APAC/Macau Reading Club), listening to the individuals involved in this process. The club takes place at the Associação de Proteção e Assistência aos Condenados (APAC) located in the city of Macau, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and this research presents reports from the recovering individuals participating in the project. These reports were obtained through the focus group methodology (ABRAMOVAY and RUA), giving us the opportunity to understand the collective thinking about the performance of the reading club through the dialogues of those who suffered punishment and who participated in the project between the years 2021 and 2023. The research is participatory and qualitative and also brings observations of experiences within the literary group, due to the fact that the author of this study is one of the extensionists who accompany the group. This investigation was guided by the following problematizing question: what do the speeches of those deprived of liberty, participants of the Clube de Leitura APAC/Macau, reveal about the impacts of education on the lives of those incarcerated? As a result, it was possible to perceive the environment as something significant for the construction of good pedagogical practices. It was also possible to observe the self-assessment carried out by the recovering children, where they addressed issues such as acquiring knowledge, reducing shyness with the strategy of reading aloud, improving communication and, above all, the exchange of knowledge between all participants. This made clear their perception of the importance of different opinions and interpretations.

Acreditando no potencial ressocializador e humanizador da leitura, este artigo procura apreender a importância da leitura e das práticas educativas não-formais para privados de liberdade a partir da experiência do Clube de Leitura APAC/Macau, ouvindo os sujeitos inseridos neste processo. O Clube acontece na Associação de Proteção e Assistência aos Condenados (APAC) localizada na cidade de Macau, no estado do Rio Grande do Norte e nesta pesquisa são apresentados relatos dos recuperandos participantes do projeto. Esses relatos foram colhidos por meio da metodologia de grupo focal (ABRAMOVAY e RUA), nos dando oportunidade de entender o pensamento coletivo sobre a atuação do referido Clube de Leitura através dos diálogos dos apenados que participaram do projeto entre os anos de 2021 e 2023. A pesquisa é participante e qualitativa, trazendo também observações de vivências no círculo literário, uma vez que a autora deste estudo é uma das extensionistas que acompanham o grupo. Essa investigação foi norteada pela seguinte questão problematizadora: o que revelam os discursos dos privados de liberdade, participantes do Clube de Leitura APAC/Macau, sobre os impactos da educação na vida dos encarcerados? Como resultado foi possível perceber o ambiente como algo significativo para a contrução de boas práticas pedagógicas.
