description PURPOSE: To describe and compare the performance of phonological processing before and after the pandemic of vulnerable students submitted to intervention based on the intervention response model (RTI). METHODS: Longitudinal and descriptive study approved by the Ethics Committee of the Institution. Sample composed of 10 students with an average age of 10.5 years, submitted to the assessment of phonological processing, among them phonological awareness, access to the mental lexicon and phonological working memory. RESULTS: The analysis between the pre and post moments indicated that the students, in the first moment, performed below expectations in phonological awareness (except in phonemic awareness) and in phonological working memory, while in quick access to the lexicon there was only inferior performance on the digits subtest. In the post-pandemic period, the students performed beyond expectations only in the letters subtest of the quick access to the lexicon and in the phonological working memory. CONCLUSION: Most of the students in the study showed post-pandemic performance as expected in phonological awareness skills and quick access to the lexicon, but with performance still below expectations in phonological working memory. It is suggested that phonological processing skills be worked on in order to reduce the consequences of school delay and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, favoring school learning, especially reading and writing.

OBJETIVO: Descrever e comparar o desempenho do processamento fonológico antes e após a pandemia de escolares em vulnerabilidade submetidos à intervenção baseada no modelo de resposta à intervenção (RTI). MÉTODOS: Estudo longitudinal e descritivo aprovado pelo Comitê de Ética da Instituição. Amostra composta por 10 escolares com idade média de 10,5 anos, submetidos à avaliação do processamento fonológico, dentre elas a consciência fonológica, acesso ao léxico mental e memória de trabalho fonológica. RESULTADOS: A análise entre os momentos pré e pós indicou que os escolares, no primeiro momento, apresentaram desempenho abaixo do esperado na consciência fonológica (exceto em consciência fonêmica) e na memória de trabalho fonológica, já no acesso rápido ao léxico houve desempenho inferior apenas no subteste de dígitos. No pós-pandemia, os escolares apresentaram desempenho fora do esperado apenas no subteste de letras do acesso rápido ao léxico e na memória de trabalho fonológica. CONCLUSÃO: A maioria dos escolares do estudo apresentaram desempenho pós-pandemia dentro do esperado nas habilidades de consciência fonológica e acesso rápido ao léxico, porém com desempenho ainda abaixo do esperado em memória de trabalho fonológica.
