Resumo:This research is focused on the processes of inclusion of people with visual impairments in higher education in the subarea of music. Its objective was 1) to investigate aspects that make students feel included or excluded in the music degree course at UFRN; 2) Know mechanisms developed by the institution that affect the inclusion of students with visual impairments. In this way, I try to understand, from the perspectives of visually impaired students enrolled at EMUFRN and the managers of the Braille Musicography and Inclusion Support Sector - SEMBRAIN, the inclusion of visually impaired people in the community, in academic activities before and during pandemic. This work is supported by authors that deal with inclusion in higher education (MELO, 2013; TRAQUEIA, 2015; MARÇAL, 2013), and also by authors that address the inclusion of people with visual impairments in higher education in music (MELO, 2010; SILVA, 2013), including discussions that correlate these areas with emergency remote teaching (MOREIRA et al., 2020; APPENZELLER et al., 2020; MOCELIN and MACHADO, 2020; SCHNEIDER and SCHNEIDER 2020). The methodology used in this work was based on a qualitative research approach, using the case study method. As data construction instruments, I used semi-structured interviews with two target audiences: visually impaired students of the Music Degree Course and professionals who coordinate the Braille Musicography and Inclusion Support Sector (SEMBRAIN), in order to understand how it has the process of inclusion of these students in higher education in music at EMUFRN took place. As a result, we can say that EMUFRN and UFRN have sought to develop mechanisms to include people with Specific Needs in their regular courses. And despite not being a definitive inclusive process, there are significant advances that make UFRN to be seen as a reference university in the fight for inclusion. It is believed that this work can contribute to the inclusion of people with visual impairments to happen in a significant way, based on the paradigms signaled by this study at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN.
