Resumo:Objective: to identify the relationship among the proposals of the National Curricular Guidelines of the Undergraduate Nursing Course concerning the competencies and skills required for the training of nurses, and the theories of complexity and positivism. Method: this is a theoretical-reflexive study. Results: in the context of nursing education and training, the complex logic is inserted because of the need for dialogue among the different types of knowledge. Accordingly, positivism and complexity theory are regarded as guiding ideas of training, which demonstrates the fact that theories cannot be suppressed, but end up coexisting together and orienting the health training processes. Conclusion: the positivist matrix and the characteristics of a type of logic close to complexity theory can be identified in the several interfaces of the training process of nurses. That is why it is up to the training institutions, teachers and students to reflect on the contributions of each strand.
