As a basis for the theoretical framework, we appropriate studies by authors such as Miguel and Miorim (2011), D'Ambrósio (1999), Mendes (2009), Bicudo (1999), National Curriculum Parameters for Elementary Education, among others. To achieve the proposed objective we developed a questionnaire for data collection, which was applied to three teachers of mathematics of elementary school in the municipalities of Caicó / RN and Jucurutu / RN. In order to exalt the History of Mathematics in the teaching-learning process of students through stimulating the reflection of teachers for the use of this methodology in the classroom. The research results showed that teachers believe that the history of mathematics is a good ally in the discipline of mathematics, but some difficulties such as the lack of this type of information in textbooks and the short time of classes are obstacles to the use of this methodology in mathematics classes. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo geral observar como a História da Matemática é valorizada e trabalhada pelos professores de Matemática no Ensino Fundamental. Este estudo foi elaborado como sendo uma pesquisa de caráter qualitativa. Como base para o referencial teórico, apropriamo-nos dos estudos de autores como Miguel e Miorim (2011), D’Ambrósio (1999), Mendes (2009), Bicudo (1999), Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais para o Ensino Fundamental, dentre outros. Para alcançar o objetivo proposto elaboramos um questionário para a coleta de dados, que foi aplicado a três professores de Matemática do Ensino Fundamental dos Municípios de Caicó/RN e Jucurutu/RN. No intuito de exaltar a História da Matemática no processo de ensino-aprendizagem dos alunos através do estímulo a reflexão dos professores para o uso dessa metodologia em sala de aula.
