This is the case of the street market in the city of Cruzeta, located in the intermediate region of Caicó, one of the three large geographic regions of Rio Grande do Norte. Thus, this dissertation aims to understand openair markets in small cities, using the open-air market in the city of Cruzeta-RN as an empirical example. To this end, the methodology adopted to carry out this study was developed based on exploratory and descriptive research, carried out through a bibliographical and documentary review and the application of interviews. To fulfill the proposed objectives and better understand the object of study, the research was based on the qualitative method, through ethnographic description and field research to collect data, both primary and secondary. From reflections on the Cruzeta open-air market and its contributions to the urban dynamics of the city, it was possible to verify that, for smaller cities, the fair becomes very important, as it guarantees the commercialization of family production, the countryside, small agribusiness and artisanal products. From the analysis of the data collected, it was possible to identify the promotion of the local economy through the street market, since it is an important commercial space, generating jobs and income, strengthening the municipality's economy. Finally, the Cruzeta street market plays a fundamental role in the city's development, contributing to the economy, culture, health and quality of life of its inhabitants.

As feiras livres, materializadas no espaço como formas comerciais de caráter socioeconômico e cultural, são importantes fonte de renda para as pequenas cidades e estão sofrendo uma série de modificações por causa do avanço da economia, cada vez mais globalizada. É o caso da feira livre da cidade de Cruzeta, localizada na Região intermediária de Caicó, uma das três grandes regiões geográficas do Rio Grande do Norte. Desta forma, esta dissertação apresenta como objetivo compreender as feiras livres nas pequenas cidades, utilizando como exemplo a feira livre da cidade de Cruzeta-RN. Para tanto, a metodologia adotada para a realização do presente estudo foi desenvolvida a partir da pesquisa de cunho exploratório e descritivo, realizada por intermédio de uma revisão bibliográfica, documental e aplicação de entrevistas. Para cumprir os objetivos propostos e compreender melhor o objeto de estudo, a pesquisa se baseou no método qualitativo, por meio da descrição etnográfica e realização de pesquisas de campo para coleta de dados, tanto primários, como secundários. A partir das reflexões sobre a feira livre de Cruzeta e suas contribuições para a dinâmica urbana citadina, foi possível constatar que, para as cidades de menor porte, a feira se torna muito importante, pois garante a comercialização da produção familiar, do campo, da pequena agroindústria e de produtos artesanais. A partir da análise dos dados coletados, foi possível identificar o fomento da economia local através da feira livre, uma vez que a mesma é um importante espaço de comercialização, gerando empregos e renda, fortalecendo a economia do município.
