Resumo: | This present dissertation discusses the documentary collection of the Alberto Maranhão theater,
a building inaugurated in 1904, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. Seeking to measure the
relevance of this collection for the memory and history of Brazilian theater, this study
introduces the concepts of sources, documents, and theatrical collections, and also
contextualizes the early years of the Alberto Maranhão Theater and the formation of its
documentary collection. The analysis focuses on documents from the years 1926-1937, using
Carrijo (2020), Azevedo (2021), and Fontana (2021) as theoretical and methodological
references. The study places the theater of Rio Grande do Norte in the context of Brazilian
theater in the 1920s and 1930s, considering the political, economic, social, and cultural
circumstances surrounding the theatrical productions at TAM. It also discusses theatrical
genres, the dynamics of professional and amateur groups, and connections with the theatrical
scene in other Northeastern states (Silva, 2014), (Ferraz, 2018) and (Faria, 2020). This research
contributes valuable insights for future studies on the history of Brazilian theater, particularly
in exploring the history of theater in Rio Grande do Norte. |
