description This work addresses the dilapidation of the urban and architectural heritage of workingclass and popular villages in the Santo Amaro neighborhood, in Recife, in the face of disputes between a process of heritage recognition and urban transformation plans. These villages are areas of great importance in the process of expansion of the city of Recife and, today, most of their characteristics are disappearing because of the recurrent urban transformations. Based on this understanding, the present research aims to understand the process of dilapidation of the villages of Santo Amaro, seeking to identify the urban and architectural attributes that help to identify the historical and cultural value of these spaces, in addition to pointing out the main difficulties faced by the villages to be recognized as cultural heritage and, consequently, preserved. The procedures used in the construction of the research were based on a bibliographic review, as well as on the analysis of maps, field observations and photographic records. The route and the analyzes carried out in the area allowed observing several transformations, mainly referring to the typologies of constructions. However, permanencies related to use, spatial morphology and also aspects that rescue memories, experiences and everyday life that refer to the original occupation of space were found. As a result, it can be pointed out that, from a technical point of view, the villages are recognized as part of the urban identity of the Santo Amaro neighborhood, and there are proposals for the preservation of these spaces, but from the perspective of urban planning and the political component, the devaluation remains visible, considering that the plans and investments directed to Santo Amaro in a few moments were designed in order to integrate the different soils existing in the neighborhood.

Este trabalho aborda a dilapidação do patrimônio urbano e arquitetônico das vilas operárias e populares do bairro de Santo Amaro, no Recife, frente às disputas entre um processo de reconhecimento patrimonial e planos urbanísticos de transformação. As vilas são áreas de grande importância no processo de expansão da cidade do Recife e, hoje, grande parte de suas características estão desaparecendo por causa das recorrentes transformações urbanas. Partindo desse entendimento, a presente pesquisa visa compreender o processo de dilapidação das vilas de Santo Amaro, buscando identificar os atributos urbanos e arquitetônicos que auxiliam na identificação do valor histórico e cultural desses espaços, além de apontar as principais dificuldades enfrentadas pelas vilas para que sejam reconhecidas enquanto patrimônio cultural e, consequentemente, preservadas. Os procedimentos utilizados na construção da pesquisa se basearam em revisão bibliográfica, bem como na análise de mapas, observações em campo e registros fotográficos. O percurso e as análises realizadas na área permitiram observar diversas transformações, principalmente referentes às tipologias das construções. Porém, foram constatadas permanências relativas ao uso, morfologia espacial e, ainda, aspectos que resgatam memórias, vivências e o cotidiano que remetem à ocupação original do espaço. Como resultado, pode-se apontar que, do ponto de vista técnico, as vilas são reconhecidas enquanto parte da identidade urbana do bairro de Santo Amaro, existindo propostas para a preservação desses espaços.
