Resumo:Since the discovery of the new coronavirus in 2019 in Wuhan, China, government leaders, epidemiology experts and society in general have had new concerns about maintaining the health and well-being of the population. This concern emerged as the quarantine extended, especially with the elderly, considered more vulnerable in this scenario and those most affected due to the drastic reduction in the practice of physical activities, daily life, levels of sociability and increased sedentary behavior. Three months after the discovery of this new variant, due to its high degree of transmissibility, the World Health Organization (WHO) began to consider this outbreak as a pandemic. From then on, world leaders together with epidemiologists developed measures to contain the virus, such as determining social isolation, hygiene care campaigns, respiratory etiquette and the use of masks, for example. In this sense, the present study aimed to analyze, through a literature review, the main impacts of physical activity during the pandemic period on the physical and mental health of the elderly population.
