Resumo:The theme of this paper is the relationship between leisure and tourism in urban spaces, based on a study carried out in the Dom Nivaldo Monte City Park in Natal, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The aim was to understand how tourism relates to the Natal City Park, identifying, from the perception of the park's managers and employees, the use of the conservation and preservation unit as a tourist attraction and socio-environmental leisure environment. Semi-structured interview techniques were used with a qualitative approach, addressing the park's managers and employees, as well as documentary and bibliographic research. The results point to challenges, such as internal conflicts in the administrative sector, which led to the closure of the park's visitor tower, its main attraction, more than five years ago. This has alienated residents and tourists who visit the conservation unit and want to make use of the tourist equipment. It concludes that more integrated management could be key to exploiting the park's full tourism potential and offering enriching experiences to visitors.
