Resumo:It is a prerogative of the basic documents that guide school physical education to discuss issues that relate the body and culture, society and beauty standards, among other topics. We understand that the issue of the body and body practices involve ontological, ethical and subjective aspects that influence the modes of thought, feel and act. In this context, this work aims to investigate which conception of the body that undergraduate students in Physical Education at UFRN have and how the graduation of Physical Education helps in the construction of the concept of body. For this, the phenomenological methodology was used, which is based on the notion of lived experience as a background for the scientific construction and for the discussion of the results obtained. This methodology studies the object or phenomenon through the perception of the same that occurs through the senses and that is intersubjective, taking into account that reality and the world have meaning through the perspective of the individual. The phenomenological reduction is an initial and important step in research since at this point any previous theories and preconceptions about the object studied, here we seek to reduce the gaze to what the object is in essence. The research had the participation of undergraduates from the first three semesters and the last three semesters of the Physical Education degree course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, they had to respond to the following questions: “What is the body for you?” and “How do you perceive the body in the course of Physical Education at UFRN?”. Responses were collected voluntarily through from the Google Forms platform and 10 responses were obtained from students in the early and 12 others of the final semester students. Initially, the responses obtained were read and analyzed with the objective of knowing the material in general, after this, individual units of meaning were created for each question, which are terms or expressions that describe that answer. The next step was the creation of categories, which are the groupings of units of meaning that approach through the use of similar or synonymous words and/or terms that express the same idea. This research provides teachers with a reflection on the perception of undergraduate students about the body, highlighting the phenomenological approach, the body awareness and movement culture as curricular components that support and provide theoretical and practical elements for understanding the body of research participants.
