Resumo:This article aimed to analyze how Paulo Freire's Culture Circles, used as a tool for literacy and adult awareness in the 1960s, have influenced the methodology of the Education and Literacy Network Extension Project for Youth, Adults and Elderly (Reajaí), linked to the Education Center of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). To this end, it was necessary to dialogue with the concepts of Culture Circle (Freire, 1967; Cardoso, 1963), Liberating Education (Freire, 2020) and Progressive Liberating Tendency (Libâneo, 1985), in addition to analyzing the historical context (Fausto, 2019; Nicolau, 2012; Schmitt, 2000). In this way, this is a qualitative research, whose crossing between bibliographic sources and the records and reflections of the case study made it possible to perceive the similarities and distances between the experiences, considering the target audience, the challenges and political-political scenarios society of each era. Thus, it was possible to ascertain the contributions of the Freirian proposal and the success of Reajaí in promoting critical and dialogic literacy.
