Resumo:The article arose from a mandatory supervised internship experience at the School of Application of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), in the 1st grade class of Early Years, and aims to reflect on algebraic thinking throught working with sequences and patterns of geometric figures present in poems and illustration produced by a 1st grade class, in 2022, of Elementary School at NEI-CAp/UFRN. The methodology used to raise discussion and bring reflections on the topics is bibliographic and documentary research, using official documents and the book “Between mummy and pharaós, poems e problem: discoveries of the 1st grade of the morning” (Souza; Gomes, 2022). The results found indicate the importance of introducing the teaching of algebra from an early age in schools for the development of algebraic thinking, starting with the identification of patterns and repetitions in a sequence of elements, thus bringing as a contribution to the area of education, the potential of a mathematical and interdisciplinary pedagogical work carried out to reflect on “How to develop a pedagogical activity that aims to contribute to the introduction of algebraic thinking in the Early Years?”.
