Resumo:Objective: map in the literature the recommendations for nasal lavage in children aged 0 to 6 years with respiratory diseases and associated complications. Method: This is a scoping review, following the guidelines of the international Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) and the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) (2020). A search was conducted in nine data sources, and two researchers collaborated in the screening process. The temporal scope of the findings is from 2010 to 2021. Results: Out of 789 identified records, 16 met the inclusion and exclusion criteria by both researchers. The majority of studies were published in the year 2020 (18.75%), in English (93.75%), and Portuguese (6.25%). This collaboration contributed to identifying recommendations for the use of nasal lavage in children, which can be integrated into the context of associations with respiratory diseases. The use of a standardized method, such as the "fencing" method, combined with health education actions, demonstrated better results. Conclusion: After highlighting and mapping the need for standardization and recommendations, evidence pointed to benefits such as improved quality of life, reduced medication and consultation consumption, and improvement in respiratory symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis, asthma, bronchiolitis, cystic fibrosis, acute (ARS), and chronic (CRS) rhinosinusitis. However, it emphasizes that the effectiveness, adherence to treatment, tolerance, and acceptability, both in children and parents, depend on health education actions by trained professionals. It is known that nurses play a crucial role in the development and improvement of educational actions in the community. From this perspective, it is concluded that associating the educational tool, such as the "fencing" method, developed by respiratory physiotherapists for all healthcare professionals, along with the traced recommendations, strengthens the continuation of safe and accessible care in the treatment of childhood respiratory diseases.
