Resumo: | Cervical cancer (CC) is the third leading cause of cancer in women
in Brazil and the Pap smear is the main screening method for early detection.
Transgender men who still have this organ must also undergo this examination.
The aim of this study was find the main cytological findings described in the
literature about Pap smears and trans men and analyze publications on the topic
in the last decade. Methods: It is a bibliographic review, about papers published
in scientific data base PUBMED, SciELO and BIREME. Were included any
scientific paper published between 2014 until 2023, that had described about Pap
smear, trans men and cervical câncer. Results: seven articles were found that
originated three categories: Cytological findings and use of testosterone,
Descriptive diagnosis of microbiology and experiences and preferences for
cervical cancer screening among trans men. It should be noted that, compared to
cis women, trans men have lower rates of taking the exam, in addition to higher
rates of collection due to factors inherent to the reality in which they live.
Conclusions: CC screening must be carried out by all patients who have a cervix
and health professionals are responsible for promoting awareness events, as well
as the entire society must be united for this purpose. More studies on the topic
are also needed, as despite being a contemporary topic there is still a scarcity of
this topic in the literature. |
