A caracterização de Streptococcus pneumoniae em pacientes com Covid-19
description SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of Covid-19, has spread globally, resulting in respiratory infections ranging from mild to severe and often associated with pneumonia. Streptococcus pneumoniae, known as pneumococcus, is a Gram-positive bacterium and is recognized as one of the main causes of pneumonia. The aim of this study is to characterize biological samples and determine the resistance profile in bacterial cultures isolated from patients coinfected with SARS-CoV-2 and Streptococcus pneumoniae in a clinical laboratory located in Campina Grande - PB. This is a descriptive, documentary, and retrospective research, based on authentic records, addressing as a dependent variable the bacteriological tests positive for Streptococcus pneumoniae, and as an independent variable positive tests for Covid-19, from June 2020 to June 2021. A total of 276 culture results were analyzed, with 99 positive for Streptococcus pneumoniae, including urine analysis, wound secretion, tracheal secretion, pleural fluid, blood, oropharyngeal secretion, and sputum. The most significant prevalences occurred in samples of pleural fluid, tracheal secretion, and wound secretion. Resistance to Amoxicillin, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate, Erythromycin, and Vancomycin was identified, in addition to resistance mechanisms to glycopeptides, macrolides, and Carbapenemase production. The results show a clinical similarity between Covid-19 and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Misdiagnoses or empirical treatments may be a direct factor in antimicrobial resistance. This study warns about the inappropriate use of antibiotics and aims to contribute to scientific knowledge, encouraging population awareness.

A SARS-CoV-2, agente causador da Covid-19, disseminou-se globalmente, resultando em infecções respiratórias que variam de leves a graves e frequentemente associadas a quadros de pneumonias. A Streptococcus pneumoniae, conhecida como pneumococo, é uma bactéria Gram-positiva, e é reconhecida como uma das principais causadoras de pneumonias. O objetivo deste estudo é caracterizar amostras biológicas e determinar o perfil de resistência em culturas bacterianas isoladas de pacientes coinfectados com a SARS-Cov-2 e Streptococcus pneumoniae em um laboratório clínico localizado em Campina Grande - PB. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, documental e retrospectiva, baseada em registros autênticos, abordando como variável dependente os exames bacteriológicos positivos para Streptococcus pneumoniae, e como variável independente testes positivos para a Covid-19, no período de Junho de 2020 a Junho de 2021. Foram analisadas 276 resultados de culturas, sendo 99 positivas para Streptococcus pneumoniae, incluindo análise de urina, secreção de feridas, secreção traqueal, líquido pleural, sangue, secreção de orofaringe e escarro. As prevalências mais significativas ocorreram em amostras de líquido pleural, secreção traqueal e secreção de feridas.
