Resumo:5G Technologies represent a significant milestone in the development of Smart Grids in the electric power distribution sector, introducing enhanced efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. The following text employs the electric power distributor Neoenergia COSERN as a practical case study lens to examine the impact and opportunities presented by 5G for the modernization of smart electrical networks. The primary objective is to investigate the crucial role of 5G Technologies in the evolution of Smart Grids, focusing on how private 5G networks can optimize system performance and management. The research is distinguished by its technical and socioeconomic relevance, emphasizing the imperative need for technological innovations for optimized and responsive energy management. The methodology includes an extensive literature review, a detailed case study, and qualitative analysis of data collected through questionnaires applied in the areas of (i) Measurement, (ii) Telecommunications Infrastructure and (iii) Control and Automation. The results indicate that the integration of 5G can bring substantial improvements in the efficiency and capacity of the energy distribution network, although it will face challenges such as investment in new infrastructure and adaptation of existing systems. The conclusions highlight the strategic importance of 5G technologies in modernizing electrical networks, underscoring the need for adaptive strategies to overcome technical and regulatory challenges, and providing practical and theoretical guidelines for future technological implementations in the energy sector.
