Resumo: | The aim of this literature review was to gather existing material on the preparation of extemporaneous liquid formulations for the pediatric public and highlight the lack of knowledge on the subject that still exists today. The study employed an integrative literature review approach, selecting relevant articles from databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and others, with a focus on the stability of oral liquid formulations. Out of the 76 analyzed articles, duplicates and those not meeting stability criteria were excluded. Findings indicate that antihypertensive, anticonvulsant, and sedative medications are frequently adapted for children. The common preparation method involves crushing tablets, mixing them with suspension vehicles like ORA-SWEET and ORA-PLUS, and administering through the chosen route, often nasoenteral. However, the lack of standardization in the process and the scarcity of studies on excipients present in the initial formulations raise concerns about the safety and effectiveness of these practices. The results underlines gaps in knowledge regarding the preparation of extemporaneous medications for children and emphasize the need for further research and specific guidelines for this critical area of pediatric pharmaceutical practice. |
