When associating this with the fact that the risks of developing Alzheimer's double every 5 years after the age of 60, it is crucial to consider how environments can assist in maintaining the quality of life for elderly individuals with Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Thus, the importance of designing the architectural project for a Long-stay Institution for the Elderly (ILPI), integrating strategies that aim to improve the quality of life and care for individuals affected by Alzheimer's, stands out in this context, making the environments more humanized. In this context, this work aimed to develop an architectural project for an Long-stay Institution to be implemented in the Northern administrative region of the city of Natal/RN designed to serve the elderly who have or may develop symptoms of Alzheimer's. The project focused on the physical-spatial conditions that contribute to the well-being and quality of life of these people. To achieve this, bibliographical research was conducted on concepts and architectural projects that addressed, above all, the person-environment relationship. Additionally, references were sought in design projects that highlight these concepts through design solutions. As a result, we have the ILPI Antônia Augusta, a single-story building divided into two blocks of dormitories, separated according to the degree of dependence of the residents, a block with technical and administrative sectors, an area of the land designated for the creation of another dormitory block, and external areas that complement the circulations, , making it possible to walk around the building continuously. The arrangement of the blocks aimed to facilitate movement within the building through circulations, which, along with gardens and external walking areas, promote natural lighting and ventilation, as well as provide contact with nature—factors contributing to well-being and quality of life.

A iminente mudança demográfica das próximas décadas gerará inúmeros impactos na sociedade, uma vez que aproximadamente um terço da população brasileira será composta por idosos (IBGE,2020). Ao associar isso ao fato de que a partir dos 60 anos de idade os riscos de desenvolvimento do Alzheimer duplicam a cada 5 anos, é fundamental pensar como os ambientes podem ser coadjuvantes na manutenção da qualidade de vida da pessoa idosa com Doença de Alzheimer (DA). Assim, destaca-se a importância de pensar em projeto arquitetônico de Instituição de Longa Permanência para Idosos (ILPI) integrando estratégias que visem a qualidade de vida e os cuidados com o indivíduo acometido de Alzheimer, de modo a tornar os ambientes mais humanizados. Nesse contexto, este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver um projeto arquitetônico de uma ILPI a ser implementada na região administrativa Norte da cidade de Natal/RN, pensado para atender idosos que possuam ou venham a desenvolver sintomas de Alzheimer. O projeto teve por foco as condicionantes físico-espaciais que contribuem para o bem estar e qualidade de vida dessas pessoas. Para tal, foram realizadas pesquisas bibliográficas a respeito de conceitos e projetos de arquitetura que abordassem, sobretudo, a relação pessoa-ambiente. Como também, buscou-se referências projetuais que evidenciam tais conceitos por meio de soluções projetuais. Como resultado tem-se a ILPI Antônia Augusta, uma edificação térrea dividida em dois blocos de dormitórios, separados de acordo com o grau de dependência dos residentes, um bloco com os setores técnico e administrativo, uma área do terreno prevista para criação de mais um bloco de dormitórios e áreas externas que complementam as circulações tornando a deambulação contínua na edificação.
