Among this theme we will address, in the region of Seridó potiguar, located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, encompassing 24 municipalities, which bring together characteristics of socio-environmental vulnerability also arising, among other factors, from water scarcity, making a territorial cut of the Retiro Municipality Community from Jucurutu, a town belonging to Seridó. In this sense, the present work aims to present the role of social technologies for coexistence with the semi-arid region, through the implementation of plate cisterns, as a potential tool for the positive transformation of regional and local reality. To this end, scientific work on the subject was used as a theoretical basis, in addition to visits and application of a semi-structured questionnaire in the field to produce the research, which solidified the role of plate cisterns in the rural context, as a primary instrument for water reserve, providing sustainable means of coexistence for human and community experience.

O Semiárido Brasileiro apresenta características marcantes e peculiares em sua composição, o qual, embora seja a área de semiaridez mais chuvosa do mundo, possui eventos de secas prolongadas e elevados índices de escassez de água, dada a evapotranspiração originaria dessa região ser maior que seu poder de acumulo de água. Assim, os elevados índices de aridez e clima quente, tornam essas áreas mais susceptíveis as vulnerais climáticas e sociais. Dentre dessa temática, abordaremos na região do Seridó potiguar, localizado no estado do Rio Grande do Norte, englobando 24 municípios, os quais reúnem características de vulnerabilidade socioambientais também oriundas, dentre outros fatores, da escassez hídrica, fazendo um recorte territorial da Comunidade Retiro no Munícipio de Jucurutu, localidade pertencente ao Seridó. Neste Sentido, o presente trabalho objetiva apresentar o protagonismo das tecnologias sociais de convivência com o semiárido, através das implantações de cisternas de placa, como ferramenta potencial para a transformação positiva da realidade regional e local.
