description The study is to investigate the contributions of the method in the process of corrective maintenance of maternity equipment. The research is valid insofar as we understand the limitations of public funding aimed at the hospital sector and the high costs involved in health services that are intertwined with the growing demand. Thus, the need to use new management models that focus on operational restructuring, aiming at the elimination of waste and process variation, has developed. In this perspective, when these management models are well executed, there will be benefits in terms of reduced costs, increased added value to the patient, and reduced lead time. The Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodology was primarily introduced in manufacturing and soon spread to numerous areas, including healthcare, originating from the combination that was only possible due to the synergy of the methods that integrate it: Six Sigma (focused on operational excellence) and Lean Manufacturing (focused on waste removal). As a methodological procedure, we made use of a quanti-qualitative, exploratory, and applied approach, also reviewing the scientific literature that supports this type of research. Regarding the practical intervention of the research, we applied the aforementioned method in the corrective maintenance process of the Januário Cicco Maternity School (MEJC), in the period from July to September 2021. Besides, we allied the five steps of the LSS methodology to the method: define, measure, analyze, implement and control, which together form the DMAIC cycle. The result was the identification of a highly critical problem, which is the breakage of neonatal flow sensors that are used in Dräger's mechanical ventilators and the biosecurity risks associated with them, in the neonatal ICU sector, and then a project was proposed to be implemented by the Clinical Engineering (CE) sector. The current process mapping of corrective maintenance was analyzed and a new one was proposed due to the lack of detail of some activities, two SOPs (standard operating procedures) were developed for the ICU professionals and another one for the CME (Central Material and Sterilization) professionals, besides the waste of the process being analyzed. For control, an Action Plan and Checklist were developed.

For control, an Action Plan and Checklist were developed.
