Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) establish a symbiotic association with most terrestrial and aquatic plant roots. Red rice and black rice, both ecotypes of Oryza sativa, are macrophytes of high economic importance. The diversity of AMF associated with rice ecotypes is poorly studied, especially under commercial cultivation conditions in the semi-arid region. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare root colonization and to inventory AMF species associated with two ecotypes in the municipality of Sousa, Paraíba, Brazil. A total of 20 samples of rhizospheric sediment and roots were collected, 10 samples for each ecotype. A total of 30 AMF species were recovered, of which 18 occurred exclusively in red rice, four in black rice and 12 species in both ecotypes. Acaulospora and Glomus were the most abundant genera, with A. longula and A. minuta being dominant. There were no statistical differences in the Wealth and Shannon indices between the ecotypes. However, the dominance of the species, as measured by the Simpson index, showed variation. The composition of the AMF communities and the percentage of colonization also differed between the two groups. Red rice had a colonization rate of 24.6%, while black rice had only 10%. This low colonization in both variations may be due to the interaction being in the early stages, explaining the presence of appressoria through the roots. The AMF species of the Caatinga were able to associate with the non-native rice ecotypes, potentially providing nutrition in the face of the stressful conditions of the semi-arid. Further studies are needed to understand the maintenance of mycorrhizal association in the roots and changes in the community at other phenological stages of these ecotypes. |

Further studies are needed to understand the maintenance of mycorrhizal association in the roots and changes in the community at other phenological stages of these ecotypes. 2023-12-20T11:54:50Z 2023-12-20T11:54:50Z 2023-12-04 bachelorThesis FELIX, Juliana Rayssa Barros.
