Resumo:This work discusses how it is possible to establish the equivalence between modified gravity theories based on the Ricci tensor and general relativity. Initially, we revisit the formulation of general relativity via Einstein-Hilbert's action in metric formalism. In addition, field equations were found from arbitrary action for modified gravity theories that depend on Riemann's tensor using metric-affine formalism. In addition, we also study modified gravity theories that are based on the Ricci tensor. In particular, we explicitly show the equivalence between quadratic gravity coupled with a scalar field and general relativity. Finally, we apply the method developed to generate the equivalence between Eddington Inspired Born-Infeld coupled with electromagnetic field and general relativity
