Resumo:The responsibility of a caregiver has a huge impact on their health and negatively impacts their social and economic function, well-being, and quality of life. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the burden on caregivers of post-stroke patients and relate it to aspects associated with the patient being cared for and the caregivers themselves. This is an observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study, carried out with 16 patients diagnosed with stroke and their respective caregivers, totaling 32 participants. Caregivers were assessed for care burden, disability, anxiety, and depression. Patients were assessed for disability, anxiety and depression, cognitive function, and level of ambulation. It was found that the majority of caregivers were female, performed other services in addition to providing primary care, and had a mild level of disability and a mild to moderate burden. There was a correlation between caregivers' burden and variables of anxiety and incapacity, mainly regarding participation and interpersonal relationships in this same group. There was no correlation between caregiver burden and patient-related variables. Therefore, health professionals must also pay attention to the caregiver when understanding their importance in the dynamics of the family environment (physical and social).
