Resumo:Lately, whether among movie addicts, gamers, illustrators, experts, students, or curious people, interest in the creative process of concept art has grown exponentially. However, there is still a gap in the literature and in the national industry of Rio Grande do Norte regarding concepts and essential steps of this process, which sometimes become difficult to understand, define or are little explored. Therefore, designers and illustrators, especially students, end up facing difficulties in finding tools and methods for character development, for example. In this sense, this work aims to develop original characters, based on research and understanding of concepts and tools commonly used in the Concept Art process, focusing on methods applied to character development, to understand different ways of making them more complex and varied - whether in terms of their physical aspects, clothing, cultural influences, origin (history). In the initial stage, theoretical research has been done on terms such as concept art, character design, costume design and prop design, which allowed us to understand and suggest a definition of such concepts. For development, the Double Diamond methodology was used, created by the Design Council and which is divided into four stages: Discover, Define, Develop and Deliver. In the Discover phase, semi-structured interviews and similarity analysis were made; in the Define phase, the plot was finalized, followed by the creation of mood boards and preparation of profiles for each character; in the Develop phase, sketches, silhouette tests and refinement were done; and in the Deliver phase, model sheets and the finalized illustrations were produced for each character developed. As for the plot, it is a fantasy story, involving four characters, Tião, Bel, Fredo and Amora, who suffered a genetic mutation, going from pets to human beings. Finally, this thesis achieved the proposed objective, stimulated new knowledge and influenced the author's creative process, in which all these multiple tools were applied, and information was gathered, with a view to developing characters, based on a specific plot.
