description The educational field of type design in Brazil still is an incipient area and the scarcity of instructional resources for the area reflects this condition. Given this statement the present work aims to produce a manipulative educational material that stimulates comprehension of the contents related to the anatomy and terminology of typefaces. The scenario of this study is teaching and learning situations on technical and higher education design courses and related areas in Brazilian public institutions. The work is structured in two methodological phases, first one is the research phase, based on the use of tools such as questionnaire, documentary research and literature survey, and the second is the project phase, containing four subdivisions: investigation, structuring, development and verification, those being based on industrial design authors such as Bonsiepe (1984), Baxter (2000) and Löbach (2001) and on the ADDIE Model, based on Filatro (2008). The work has generated three products, the first being a bibliographic base on teaching materials and about the teaching and learning situation of the anatomy and typographic terminology content. In addition to that, the study has also built a compendium of type anatomy. The second product is the result of a survey conducted with students and teachers about the teaching and learning of this content, and the last one is the design of the manipulative educational material developed in this work, as well as the procedures and instructions needed to reproduce it.

O ensino do design de tipos no Brasil é ainda uma área embrionária e a escassez de recursos didáticos para a área reflete esse estado. Tendo isso em consideração, o presente trabalho tem por objetivo produzir um material didático manipulável que estimule uma maior facilidade na assimilação dos conteúdos relacionados à anatomia e terminologia dos caracteres tipográficos. Esse estudo tem como cenário cursos de nível técnico e superior em design e áreas correlatas em instituições públicas brasileiras. A produção desse recurso didático é estruturada em duas fases metodológicas, sendo uma de pesquisa, a partir da utilização de ferramentas como questionário, pesquisa documental e levantamento bibliográfico, e outra de projeto, contendo quatro subfases: investigação, estruturação, desenvolvimento e verificação, sendo baseada em autores de design industrial como Bonsiepe (1984), Baxter (2000) e Löbach (2001) e no Modelo ADDIE, com base em Filatro (2008). O trabalho gerou três frutos, sendo o primeiro deles uma base bibliográfica sobre materiais didáticos e sobre o ensino e aprendizagem do conteúdo de anatomia e terminologia tipográfica, para além de um compêndio de definições das partes anatômicas. O segundo é resultado da pesquisa realizada com alunos e professores sobre o ensino e aprendizagem desse conteúdo.
