Resumo: | Introduction: Prolonged exposure to music at high intensity poses a threat to the
hearing of musicians, potentially leading to auditory damage and an increased risk of
hearing loss. Despite this, there is no specific legislation in Brazil for hearing protection
in this professional category. Objective: To investigate what legal measures are being
taken regarding the prevention of auditory effects caused by exposure to music.
Method: An integrative review study was conducted using the EMBASE, PUBMED,
SCIELO, and WEB OF SCIENCE databases, employing the descriptors "professional
exposure," "worker health," "music," and "hearing loss." Selection criteria included free
and complete articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, excluding other languages,
works without free access, and integrative literature reviews. Results: Among the 12
selected studies, the most recurrent auditory signs and complaints among musicians
were intolerance to loud sounds and tinnitus, indicating the acquisition of sensorineural
hearing loss, with threshold reduction observed mainly at frequencies of 3000 Hz, 4000
Hz, and 6000 Hz. The most reported actions for promoting and preventing hearing loss
included the implementation of an auditory conservation program, the use of hearing
protection devices, and educational initiatives. Regarding legislation for hearing care in
the context of sound exposure for musicians, no legal documents specifying protection
for this category were found. Conclusion: Concerning legal recommendations, the
absence of studies with a specific focus on this professional category was observed.
