Resumo:Given consumers' growing awareness of sustainable products, the cosmetics sector is seeking to adapt to this new trend of ecologically responsible consumption. From this perspective, Bryophyllum pinnatum is a plant with potential application in cosmetic products and known for its medicinal properties. Therefore, the objective of the study was to evaluate the in vivo toxicity and clinical safety of Bryophyllum pinnatum extract. The toxicity of the extract was evaluated using the nematodes Caenorhabditis elegans, used as a model organism. Nematodes were evaluated for body size and percentage of egg hatching. In vivo safety was assessed through compatibility, irritability and sensitization tests in human volunteers. The tests demonstrated that the extract showed no toxicity and, furthermore, no induction of protective and sensitization processes, supporting the "Dermatologically tested" appeal based on skin tests. The results of this research make significant contributions to the cosmetic industry, showing the promising potential of Bryophyllum pinnatum extract in terms of expanding the options of natural and safe ingredients available for cosmetic products.
