Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate, through an integrative literature review, the efficacy and side effects of at home tooth bleaching in adolescents. Methodology: Bibliographic searches were carried out in PubMed, Scielo and Scopus databases between 2020 and 2023, using the descriptors “tooth whitening”, “tooth bleaching”, “teens”, “teenagers”, “adolescent”. The articles were selected following the PRISMA guidelines, with the inclusion criteria being studies that addressed the effectiveness and adverse effects of home tooth whitening in adolescents. Results: Three articles were obtained, which dealt with the literature sought. The protocols used for home tooth whitening in adolescents were effective, with minimal side effects. However, it was observed that polyethylene strips can present greater risks, such as increased sensitivity and oral irritation. Conclusions: In all the studies found, home tooth whitening in adolescents was effective and showed transient and controllable adverse effects. It is important to carry out further clinical research in order to establish a safe and ideal protocol for this age group.

Introdução: O clareamento dental tem experimentado um aumento substancial na procura por parte de adolescentes, que desejam modificar a cor dos seus dentes. No entanto, esse crescimento na demanda tem gerado questionamentos relevantes com relação à efetividade e segurança desse procedimento em um público mais jovem. Objetivo: Esse estudo teve como objetivo avaliar, através de uma revisão integrativa de literatura, a efetividade e efeitos colaterais do clareamento dentário caseiro supervisionado em adolescentes. Metodologia: As buscas bibliográficas foram realizadas na base de dados PubMed, Scielo e Scopus, no período de 2000 a 2023, utilizando os descritores “Tooth whitening”, “Tooth bleaching”, “Teens”, “Teenagers”, “Adolescent”. Os artigos foram selecionados seguindo as diretrizes PRISMA, tendo como critérios para inclusão estudos que abordassem a efetividade e os efeitos adversos do clareamento dentário caseiro em adolescentes. Resultados: Foram obtidos 03 artigos, que abordavam acerca da literatura procurada. Os protocolos empregados para o clareamento dentário caseiro, em adolescentes, demonstraram eficácia, com mínimos efeitos colaterais. No entanto, observou-se que as fitas de polietileno podem apresentar maiores riscos, como aumento da sensibilidade e irritação oral. Conclusões: Em todos os trabalhos encontrados, o clareamento dentário caseiro em adolescentes foi efetivo e apresentou efeitos adversos transitórios e controláveis.
