Resumo:Parque das Dunas is an area of great environmental relevance, with dunes, lagoons and a diversity of native vegetation. Therefore, the Management Plan is a management instrument that establishes guidelines for the sustainable use of natural resources in protected areas. Thus, visitation in protected areas constitutes a valuable conservation strategy, provided by SNUC, in which this work aims to analyze the proposals contained in the creation of the Management Plan for external public visitation and determine the current situation of visitation in relation to to ecological tourism in Parque das Dunas, a conservation unit located in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. In this study, the proposals of this plan in relation to external visits were analyzed, including definitions of trails, number of visitors, environmental education and control of environmental impacts. The study of the public use area of Parque das Dunas it is following the management plan, effectively reflecting conservation guidelines. Interviews with 150 participants indicated a female predominance (18-30 years old, completed higher education) among visitors, mostly national tourists who visit the park 1 to 5 times a year, motivated by recreation and leisure, demonstrating a high interest in environmental issues. The assessment of infrastructure and environmental understanding was predominantly positive, except for the need for attention to leisure equipment, while ecological tourism showed growth, impacted only by the pandemic. The results provide valuable input for park management to improve services and the visitor experience, strengthening sustainable practices and environmental conservation
