Resumo:In the quest for new materials capable of replacing substantial amounts of Portland cement (PC), studies have focused on seeking mineral additives to fill this gap. In this context, metakaolin (MK) and limestone filler (LF) have proven promising when used together. This combination gives rise to a new binder called Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC³). Within this framework, this research aims to analyze the behavior in the fresh state and the mechanical strength of rendering mortars produced with LC³. The percentage of Portland cement replacement by MK and LF was 45% by mass, termed LC³-55 (55% PC). The MK:LF ratio was 2:1, and the binder:fine aggregate ratio was 1:4.5, by volume. The results obtained indicate that the LC³ mixture has lower density than the reference mixture and exhibits similar axial compressive strength to the control mixture after 28 days of curing. Regarding flexural tensile strength, despite showing a lower Rtf index at early ages, LC³ revealed a more significant strengthening capacity over the ages analyzed when compared to the REF.
