Resumo: | The industrial activities of the current linear production model have been growing faster than the regeneration of natural resources, which, combined with the poor management of industrial waste, has caused irreversible environmental issues. In the face of the need for practices linked to sustainable development, the circular economy (CE) has emerged as an alternative and effective model. This model suggests ending linear production processes and reintegrating waste into the production cycle by reducing environmental disposal and extracting raw materials. Therefore, this paper aims to provide an overview of how CE is inserted into industry and its impacts in the economic and environmental spheres. To this end, a systematic literature review was carried out by scanning the Scopus (Elsevier) and SciELO research databases. The 15 articles selected and included in the study showed how this economic model has been implemented in various sectors, such as construction, chemicals, food, electronics and textiles. It was shown that the reuse of waste from these industrial practices is the primary tool used by these sectors. In addition, it was possible to identify which regions have adopted sustainable development practices and how this has contributed to the use of CE in these countries. Finally, the articles have shown positive economic and environmental indicators results, by adopting sustainable processes, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy and lower production costs. |
