Resumo:This article aims at presenting viewpoints related to the preservation of institutional pictures which had been printed in the university field. It explains both the context of the information, characterizing the document as a support of the information representation. It also conceptualizes the memory to the promotion of communication, to spread information and ways to keep it in the human mind. It emphasizes the photography as being a way of representation of documentary information which assumes a key role in the memory building - just as the elements which constitute it that makes it in either printed or digital format. It approaches technical and reflective issues about the preservation, conservation and dissemination of information in photographic collections. It has as a goal to study the ways of stowage and preservation of the pictures from the Communication agency of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, and realizing the existence of divulgation of these materials to the college community. It finishes the study reflecting about the importance of keeping the pictures to the institutional memory building, aiming at spreading information to the internal and external public of the UFRN
