Resumo: | Wood shavings are a source of biomass acquired, in most cases, from wood waste that
would otherwise be discarded, such as tree branch pruning and felling, leftovers from sawmills,
and so on. It can be used in a variety of sectors and one of them is for lining animal cages in
vivariums. Moringa oleifera Lam is a hardy, fast-growing plant. With this in mind, the aim of this
study was to analyze the growth of the Moringa oleifera Lam species as a function of
fertilization for the production of wood shavings. The plantation, which was set up at the
Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN)/Academic Unit Specialized in Agrarian
Sciences (UAECIA)/Jundiaí Agricultural School (EAJ), in the municipality of Macaíba/RN, had
four treatments: chemical fertilization (T1), chemical fertilization and organic compost (T2),
chemical fertilization and charcoal (T3) and T0 as the control, with each plot containing 64
individuals, making a total of 1,024 individuals. In order to carry out the experiments, the area
had to be pruned and a moringa wood disk was selected for each treatment and tested for
density. Some samples, in the form of wood shavings, were selected from each treatment.
These samples show us the yield of each treatment according to the fertilizer received. It can
be seen that the species in question is not so nutritionally demanding, since there was no
significant difference when compared to the control, making it a good option to invest in its
planting. |
