Resumo:Dealing with patients with autism spectrum disorder is a challenge, and even more so when it comes to children who need dental care. In this context, the aim of this study was to review the current scientific literature on aspects of dental management in children with ASD from the perspective of the professional and the guardian, since there are few studies and professionals who deal with such patients. With the knowledge acquired from the review, it was possible to start producing an educational book to help carers and dental professionals deal with children with ASD. To this end, articles were selected from the PubMed, Scopus and BVS databases. The inclusion criteria were studies that presented the dental management of children with ASD, from the care of the dentist and even those of the guardians; search strategy "dental care" AND "Autism Spectrum Disorder" AND children NOT adults; language: English, Portuguese and publication period from 2013 to 2023. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 10 articles were obtained. The articles selected presented visual resources, adapted environments and videos as the main tools that facilitate the dental management of children with ASD. This reinforces the need for dental professionals to be prepared to deal with these patients as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing support for the treatment of each individual in an individualized way.
