Resumo:Introduction: The impact of gingival recession (GR) on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) has motivated the search for less invasive techniques for root coverage. Aim: To evaluate the impact of two techniques for root coverage with subepithelial connective tissue graft on PROMs in patients with single, unilateral and type 1 (RT1) GR at baseline and 6 months and 12 months after surgery. Methods: This study is a parallel, randomized and double-blind clinical trial, in which 46 patients were treated using the coronally advanced flap (control group) and a tunnel technique (test group), both associated with connective tissue graft. These patients were evaluated for aesthetics, cervical dentine hypersensitivity (CDH), degree of satisfaction and quality of life. Statistical analysis was performed using t-tests for independent samples, Split-Plot and Chi-square. Results: 46 patients, divided into test (23) and control (23) groups, completed this study. Statistically significant differences were observed in the means for aesthetic, CDH and degree of satisfaction. There was a significant improvement in quality of life over the evaluation time (p<0,001), however there was no statistically significant difference between the treatment groups. Conclusion: Both treatments were shown to positively impact PROMs.
