Resumo:Currently, Brazil is one of the countries that has not yet managed to democratize access to education for all. Inequality of access is also caused by difficulties in offering public libraries to society. In relation to this, the Brazilian population has high rates of illiteracy, as well as interruptions in schooling that lead young people and adults to study at other so-called non-regular times. On the other hand, when libraries exist in territories, they are marked by several adversities, which often do not involve the creation of services for the illiterate, for people with low education or even students in the modality known as Education. Young People and Adults (EJA). In view of this, this research discusses the importance of the Public Library and its role in the teaching modality focused on EJA, as well as to fulfill objective 4 of the 2030 Agenda - Quality Education. The general objective is to discuss the importance of the Public Library in combating illiteracy and supporting Youth and Adult Education (EJA). In this sense, this work is exploratory, in which bibliographical research was used to construct the literature review. Furthermore, for the purpose of disseminating good practices carried out in Brazilian public libraries, as well as presenting its partnership with schools, some actions involving EJA are presented, which were collected from documentary research (in the news on google academic ). At the end of the work, it was concluded, in fact, that in addition to the public library being extremely important for education in Brazil, this social institution can help EJA through specific actions, so some actions are proposed to be carried out in collaboration with EJA. It was also found that despite the aforementioned importance, there is still a considerable way to go, mainly depending on investments and recognition by Brazilian governments.
