Thus, the present study aims to present a history of the use of DSpace in Brazil, with a focus on technology. The study revealed that both research and non-academic institutions have needs that transcend the DSpace default installation, requiring extensions of the standard features of this software, as well as that there is little sharing of such extended functionality, revealing the need for greater disclosure and interaction, mainly among the information technology teams that work at DSpace in Brazil O Dspace é uma ferramenta tecnológica, livre de pagamento de licença, altamente customizável por meio de configurações, de código aberto, sendo um dos softwares livres mais utilizados nas instituições para criarem seus repositórios. Entretanto, mesmo com todo o seu uso, ainda há certa carência de documentos científicos que tratem da tecnologia em si, na Ciência da Informação, visto que parte dos estudos neste campo científico aborda os resultados do uso da ferramenta propriamente dita. Assim, o presente estudo tem por objetivo apresentar um histórico do uso do DSpace no Brasil, com foco na tecnologia.
