Resumo:This paper presents the implementation process of the Acervus system, currently used by the Núcleo Temático da Seca e do Semiárido (Nut-seca), a documentation center located at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. It brings an overview about Nut-seca, documentation centers, Acervus system, and briefly the Marc 21 standard. The specific objective was to present the process of adopting the Acervus system by Nut-seca, demonstrating the stages of application of the system, and the choices for the best use of the system as the necessary adaptations to the reality of the Nut-seca informational collection, also presents the main characteristics of the Acervus system. At the end, it was proposed a simplified manual on the use of Acervus about cataloging in the system to help scholars and librarians who need to use the system in the future. The methodology applied was exploratory and documentary in nature and descriptive. It is concluded that the system has brought benefits, facilities, and agility for cataloging the collection, corresponding to a system that meets the specificities and needs of the Nut-seca document center. Further studies are recommended in order to broaden knowledge of this subject.
