The objective of this work is to analyze, considering historical knowledge and school
knowledge inherent to basic education, the earthquakes that occurred in 1986 in the city
of João Câmara, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The goal is to investigate
with 9th grade students the human relationship with nature phenomena, understanding
how human actions can favor the emergence of natural disasters. The study enables
elementary school students to experience the study of nature phenomena related to social
and cultural history. It is a research that works with a local theme - the earthquakes in
João Câmara - that becomes universal as it discusses an universal issue: the relationship
of men and women with nature. It approaches how the use of individual and collective
memories around the earthquakes is an important strategy for the work with the
construction of local identities, since it allows relationships to be established with distinct
spatialities and temporalities. As an appendix to the work, a product is presented - which
is a requirement of ProfHistoria - which is a “Caixa de História", composed of workshops.
Each workshop is organized in themes related to earthquakes and structured with texts,
images and videos for analysis and questions to be answered by the students. In each
workshop, there is a methodological procedure to be adopted by the teacher. We can attest
the efficiency of nature studies as historical content for students to better understand the
world they live in. |

O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar, com base no conhecimento histórico e no conhecimento escolar inerente ao ensino básico, os terremotos ocorridos em 1986 no município de João Câmara, no Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. A meta é investigar com alunos do 9º ano do ensino fundamental a relação entre os homens e as mulheres com fenômenos da natureza, compreendendo de que maneira as ações humanas podem favorecer a ampliação dos efeitos das catástrofes naturais. O estudo possibilita que alunos da escola básica vivenciem a experiência de estudar os fenômenos da natureza relacionados com a história social e cultural. Trata-se de uma pesquisa que trabalha com uma temática local – os terremotos de João Câmara – que se universaliza na medida em que discute uma questão universal: o relacionamento dos homens e das mulheres com a natureza. Aborda como o uso das memórias individuais e coletivas em torno dos terremotos se constitui em uma importante estratégia para o trabalho com a construção das identidades locais, uma vez que permite que sejam estabelecidas relações com espacialidades e temporalidades distintas. Como apêndice do trabalho é apresentado um produto – que é uma exigência do ProfHistória – que é uma Caixa de História, composta por oficinas de trabalho. Cada oficina é organizada em temáticas relacionadas aos terremotos e estão estruturadas a partir de textos, imagens e vídeos para análises e por questões para serem respondidas pelos alunos. Em cada oficina há um detalhamento metodológico a ser adotado pelo professor.
