description This research thematizes the relationships between body, health and illness from the experiences of Physical Education professionals (PEF) who experience processes of illness related to herniated discs. This is phenomenological research with the aim of understanding the perception of the body in illness of Physical Education (PE) graduates who have herniated discs, in its different degrees of involvement, in order to contribute to the discussions in Physical Education. And, more specifically, it aimed to identify the perception of body and body in illness of these professionals; and to describe how the PE professional affected by herniated disk experiences his/her body, as well as the effects of the illness on his/her working practices in Physical Education. The study shows its relevance by proposing to deepen studies in Physical Education, expanding the understanding of the theme body in illness and activity of the PE professional, both in terms of the ways society approaches the phenomenon, and in terms of the construction of new dimensions for the ways in which PEF relate to their bodies. We interviewed 06 professionals with Bachelor's, and Technologist degrees in Sports and Leisure working in the Crajubar region, South of Ceará-Brazil. It was identified that they present conceptions of the body both as an object and/or instrument, and of the body as biocultural. As for the perception of the body in illness, the participants denote a strong relation with limitation of their physical abilities and motor skills, as well as relate this process to aging. This fact made them feel the need to develop self-care techniques to help overcome the process. Along with self-care, measures were adopted such as avoiding painful body practices; changes in routine, in personal and professional life; and body and pedagogical rearrangement as ways to control the pain and the effects of the hernia in their personal and professional lives. However, it highlights the importance of perception, intersubjectivity, and self-care as indispensable aspects to deal with the pain of living with an incapacitating disease and with the ways to rebuild the professional path and the life of those who get sick. From these reflections, new horizons are opened to perceive the body, the movement, and the illness as capable of propelling professionals to be re-enchanted with the world, with PE, and with their own bodies and the bodies of others, facing illness and life based on an existential and expanded vision of the self. Such reflections bring to PE contributions to perceive it beyond an area that works with the functioning and development of the body, understanding it as a space of permanent self elaboration through movement.

Esta pesquisa tematiza as relações entre corpo, saúde e adoecimento a partir das experiências vividas por profissionais de Educação Física (PEF) que vivenciam processos de adoecimento relacionados à hérnia de disco. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de abordagem fenomenológica com o objetivo de compreender a percepção de corpo em adoecimento de graduados em Educação Física (EF) que possuem hérnia de disco, em seus diferentes graus de acometimento, com vistas a colaborar com as discussões na Educação Física. De forma mais específica, buscou-se identificar a percepção de corpo e de corpo em adoecimento desses profissionais e descrever como o profissional de EF acometido por hérnia de disco vivencia seu corpo, bem como, os efeitos do adoecimento nas suas práticas laborais na Educação Física. O estudo demonstra sua relevância ao se propor a aprofundar estudos na Educação Física dilatando a compreensão da temática corpo em adoecimento e atividade do profissional de EF tanto no que tange às formas como a sociedade aborda o fenômeno quanto no que diz respeito a construção de novas dimensões para os modos como os PEF relacionam-se com seus corpos. Foram entrevistados 06 profissionais com formação de Bacharelado, Licenciatura e Tecnólogo em Desporto e Lazer com atuação na região do Crajubar, Sul do Ceará-Brasil. Identificou-se que eles apresentam concepções de corpo tanto como objeto e/ou instrumento quanto de corpo como biocultural. Quanto à percepção de corpo em adoecimento os participantes denotam forte relação com limitação das suas capacidades físicas e habilidades motoras, assim como relacionam esse processo ao envelhecimento, fato que os fez sentir a necessidade de desenvolvimento de técnicas de cuidado de si para auxiliar a superar o processo. Junto ao cuidado de si, foram adotadas medidas como: afastamento de práticas corporais dolorosas; alterações de rotina na vida pessoal e profissional e rearranjo corporal e pedagógico como formas de controlar as dores e os efeitos da hérnia em suas vidas. Contudo, salienta-se a importância da percepção, da intersubjetividade e do cuidado de si como aspectos imprescindíveis para lidar com a dor de existir com uma doença incapacitante e com os caminhos para a reconstrução do percurso profissional e da vida daqueles que adoecem. A partir de tais reflexões abrem-se novos horizontes para perceber o corpo, o movimento e o adoecimento como capazes de impulsionar os profissionais para o reencantamento com o mundo, com a EF e com seus corpos e os corpos dos outros, encarando o adoecimento e a vida tomando como base uma visão existencial e ampliada sobre si.
