Resumo: | The discourses of Brazilian Librarianship are the object of study of this research, which focused on the articles published during the 1980s in the Revista de Biblioteconomia de Brasília. This journal, whose first issue was published in 1973, ended its activities in 2001 and focused on the areas of Librarianship, Information Science, Archival Science and the like. With the intention of discussing two central concepts of Librarianship - the library and the librarian - we analyzed the productions that dealt with such categories of analysis. The research is, then, considered exploratory, of a bibliographic nature, whose method used was the content analysis. This decade was marked by the importance of information and technology as factors responsible for the country's social and economic development. The library, in this context of an information society, is marked by the discussion of the automation of its services and products.
