Resumo:This project describes the creation of a dingbat font that was inspired by the structures seen along Chile Street in Natal, Brazil’s Ribeira district. The project aims to visually document intangible cultural elements as well as tangible cultural elements that have endured throughout the area’s history. The Bonsiepe (1984) methodology and Cunha (2019)’s method for making dingbats were merged to create the cidade baixa typeface, which was then modified to meet the project’s requirements. The final result was the cidade baixa font, composed of 36 representations of the material patrimony and people’s interactions with the place. Ten characters representing intangible culture associated with numerals and twenty-six dingbats representing material aspects in the version associated with alphabetic characters were developed.
