Resumo:The present work aims to discuss challenges and perspectives of a group of students of Youth and Adult Education of the evening period of the General João Varela State School, seeking to understand the factors that influence the permanence or intermittence of school. To this end, this research was conducted through a qualitative approach, including participant observation and semi-structured interviews. During the research, it was necessary to carry out a bibliographic survey to support our study on the theme in EJA, in order to identify factors that may influence the continuity or discontinuity in the school life of this specific public. It was observed that these students have diverse experiences, but that they are similar due to the fact that, at some point, for different reasons, they stopped attending school. Based on the results of this research, it was possible to identify that students are faced with several challenges that impact their educational journey and, when faced with these adversities, they demonstrate determination to face and overcome such obstacles in order to remain motivated in the educational path. This study contributes to the understanding of the challenges and perspectives of EJA students and can serve as a basis for the formulation of more effective and inclusive public policies and pedagogical practices.
