Resumo:Currently, stress is recognized as one of the biggest problems that affect the physical and mental health of the individual. The Stress corresponds to a physical, psychic and hormonal response that occurs when the body needs to adapt to an event that can cause an imbalance in the individual's homeostasis. Then, the student's admission to the University can keep him in touch with specific stressors, such as content estimates, the amount of material to be reflected, the demands imposed on the course, family interference, competition, among others. The objective of this study was to investigate the cardiovascular and emotional response of students of the Biomedicine Course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte during exposure to two different types of content evaluation: writing and gymkhana. For this, the values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate and state of anxiety (IDATE) of the students were recorded before and after the evaluative activities (baseline, pre-test, post-test and recovery phases). An increase in systolic blood pressure was found in the written test and in heart rate in the gymkhana; the state of anxiety varied in both types of assessment. In addition, the highest values were found in the cardiovascular variables and in the state anxiety of the students in the pre-test phases that preceded the application of the stressor with the return to baseline values after its completion. Thus, we can suggest that coping with stressors can lead to internal changes that aim to adapt the individual to these situations.
