| Resumo: | The death of women for being women is the most brutal manifestation of domestic and family violence. In this context, it is known that these violations result from structural and institutionalized inequalities of oppression based on gender and represent violations of individual and collective human rights. Based on the exposition of different theses about what the term gender represents, the historical process of recognition of violence against women at an international and national level was examined, as well as how the concept of femicide was structured in Brazil. In view of this information, the complexity of the violent deaths of women was clarified, arguing why the application of the gender perspective is essential in the criminal prosecution of the referred cases and, also, the responsibility of the State to investigate, punish, prevent and repair the damages caused to victims and society. That said, we sought to investigate the reality of Rio Grande do Norte between the years 2015, after the enactment of Law nº 13.104, and 2022, which is why 216 (two hundred and sixteen) procedures were analyzed, generating the schemes exposed throughout from work. By providing alternative proposals and recommendations based on the data obtained, the present study seeks to help the elaboration and implementation of public policies and public security actions that are more effective in order to prevent the occurrence of feminicides in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. |
