The general objective was to analyze the relevance of the altinha championships held on Pipa beach, Tibau do Sul/RN, as a tourist attraction with potential for the locality. The exploratory-descriptive research had a quali-quantitative approach with the use of multiple data collection instruments, such as: bibliographical research, in loco research and participant on Pipa beach, semi-structured interview with the event organizer and online questionnaires aimed at the public of the Pipalta championships. The results obtained from this research indicate the potential of the event as a tourist attraction and local social interaction, and the characteristics of tourists who take this type of trip in order to better adapt future events to the attending public. From this research, it is possible to expand the studies about this sport in the perspective of tourism. A praia de Pipa é cenário de diversos eventos esportivos, o presente estudo apresenta os eventos de altinha Pipalta realizados a partir de 2021 pelo grupo Alta na Pipa e as relações criadas a partir das realizações dos eventos. Tanto com os equipamentos turísticos como com a comunidade. O objetivo geral consistiu em analisar a relevância dos campeonatos de altinha realizados na praia de Pipa, Tibau do Sul/RN, como um atrativo turístico com potencial para a localidade. A pesquisa de caráter exploratório-descritivo teve uma abordagem quali-quantitativa com um emprego de múltiplos instrumentos de coleta de dados, tais como: pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa in loco e participante na praia de Pipa, entrevista semiestruturada com o organizador do evento e questionários online direcionados ao público dos campeonatos Pipalta. Os resultados obtidos com esta pesquisa indicam um potencial do evento como atrativo turístico e interação social local, e as características dos turistas que realizam este tipo de viagem a fim de melhor adequar os eventos futuros ao público frequentador.
