description Access to information is fundamental for a democratic and transparent society, but not everyone has guaranteed access to this resource and understanding, especially due to the complexity of language in official documents. Public administration should be prepared to meet the needs of citizens, including access to information. The Access to Information Act (LAI) in Brazil has brought advancements, but there are still challenges to be faced, such as the effective implementation of the law and the training of public servants. In this context, Plain Language plays an important role in making information accessible to all. The adoption of Plain Language by public institutions promotes inclusion, transparency, and trust in the institutions. However, the implementation of Plain Language faces challenges, requiring effective communication strategies and awareness of the importance of this approach. This work addresses the theoretical aspects of access to information and the importance of Plain Language, examining challenges and examples of best practices in Brazilian public administration, aiming to promote clear and accessible access to information. The methodology adopted in the research includes the inductive method, using techniques of documentary and bibliographic research with a qualitative exploratory approach and categorical analysis of content analysis. The research involved data collection through official documents and relevant materials, and analysis and interpretation of the collected data. Documents from 11 public institutions were analyzed, identifying 13 guidelines for the adoption of Plain Language. From this, it can be concluded that there was significant engagement at the state level, highlighting Ceará and São Paulo. Legal documents were found at the federal, state, and municipal levels, emphasizing the need for clear communication.

O acesso à informação é fundamental para uma sociedade democrática e transparente, mas nem todos têm acesso a este recurso e compreensão garantidos, especialmente devido à complexidade da linguagem em documentos oficiais. A administração pública deve estar preparada para atender às necessidades dos cidadãos, incluindo o acesso à informação. A Lei de Acesso à Informação (LAI) no Brasil promoveu avanços, mas ainda existem desafios a serem enfrentados, como a implementação efetiva da Lei e a capacitação dos servidores públicos. Nesse contexto, a Linguagem Simples desempenha um papel importante, tornando a informação acessível a todos. A adoção da Linguagem Simples pelas instituições públicas promove a inclusão, transparência e confiança nas instituições.
