However, the act of migrating and the migrant itself have been represented in various ways in social manifestations, including literature. The objective of this study is to analyze how Northeastern migration and the migrant subject, affected by modernity, are represented in the novel "Essa Terra" by Antônio Torres. To achieve this goal, the dialogue between internal migration and cultural identity in the Northeast was examined, establishing a cause-and-effect relationship in these phenomena. Thus, it is observed that Northeastern migration to the major urban centers in the Southeast is also a result of the fragmentation process of the Northeasterner's identity. In this undergraduate thesis, based on bibliographic research, we used as theoretical framework the works of Bosi (1996), Genette (1979), Gancho (2004), Todorov (2011), and Candido (2000) to analyze the narrative categories of the text and relate them to the process of narrative fragmentation. Therefore, it is verified that "Essa Terra" exhibits a structural homology to the migration process and displays a realistic representation of the migrant in the aesthetic realm. Com o avançar dos tempos e a consolidação da modernidade, muitos fatores sociais, econômicos e culturais passaram a ser mais complexos, como é o caso do processo de migração. No entanto, o ato de migrar e o migrante foram representados de diversas maneiras em manifestações de ordem social, inclusive na literatura. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar como a migração nordestina e o sujeito migrante, afetado pela modernidade, foram representados no romance Essa Terra, de Antônio Torres. Para isso, foi analisado o diálogo entre migração interna e a identidade cultural no Nordeste, estabelecendo uma relação de causa e consequência nesses fenômenos. Desta maneira, observa-se que a migração nordestina para os grandes centros urbanos do Sudeste é oriunda, também, pelo processo de fragmentação da identidade do nordestino. Nesta monografia, baseando-se na pesquisa bibliográfica, foi utilizado como aporte teórico Bosi (1996), Genette (1979), Gancho (2004), Todorov (2011) e Candido (2000), para analisar as categorias narrativas do texto e relacioná-las ao processo de fragmentação da narrativa.
