description The architecture of veterinary hospitals focused on animal health is a matter of great importance, especially in a society that is increasingly concerned about animal welfare. Over the years, attention to animal healthcare has grown, necessitating increased investments in infrastructure to meet the demand. With the increase in the pet population and awareness of the importance of healthcare for animals, the number of people seeking veterinary services has significantly risen. Therefore, the present work aims to develop an architectural proposal for a space dedicated to the health of small animals, based on the concepts of expansiveness, flexibility, and adaptability. To achieve this, it was sought to study and understand the needs of small mammals as well as the human users, particularly the staff of such establishments. Additionally, it aimed to comprehend how veterinary healthcare facilities and animal shelters operate and apply the principles of expansiveness, flexibility, and adaptability in the project, with the aim of employing guidelines that contribute to sustainable modifications of the space. As a result, the final proposal of the project is the Assisi Veterinary Hospital, a healthcare environment composed of five blocks, with one distributed over two floors and the others being single-story, in addition to providing two semi-public areas. It occupies a total area of 5,031.25 square meters in the neighborhood of Lagoa Nova, in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte.

A arquitetura hospitalar voltada à saúde animal é um assunto de grande importância, especialmente em uma sociedade cada vez mais preocupada com o bem-estar dos animais. Ao longo dos anos, a atenção aos cuidados de saúde animal tem crescido, sendo necessário o aumento de investimentos em infraestrutura para atender a demanda. Com o aumento da população de animais de estimação e a conscientização sobre a importância dos cuidados de saúde para os mesmos, o número de pessoas procurando por serviços veterinários têm aumentado significativamente. Logo, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo geral elaborar uma proposta arquitetônica de um espaço voltado à saúde de animais de pequeno porte à luz dos conceitos de expansividade, flexibilidade e adaptabilidade. Para isso, buscou-se estudar e entender quais são as necessidades dos animais domésticos (com enfoque nos cachorros e gatos), bem como os usuários humanos, em especial os funcionários desse tipo de empreendimento; compreender como ocorre o funcionamento de estabelecimentos assistenciais de saúde veterinária e dos abrigos de animais; aplicar os princípios de expansividade, flexibilidade e adaptabilidade no projeto, visando o emprego de diretrizes que contribuam para que o espaço possa sofrer alterações de modo sustentável.
